She’s a little Seattle, he’s a little New Orleans. In fact, Bryan and Akilah did an awesome job of incorporating the feel of the two cities into the wedding. The reception looked back at Seattle from Salty’s on Alki and they ended the evening with a traditional New Orleans second line. By the way, this wedding featured the loudest DJ we’ve ever heard! :-)

We had big plans for some super fun and sunny photos at Shelia and Nels’ Sunday afternoon wedding. In fact, we had set aside a couple of hours in the evening for photos. Well, even in August the Seattle weather did not cooperate. Not to be deterred, Sheila and Nels got dolled up again for a shoot last night. They were such experienced models that after the shoot they orchestrated a photo of me!

One of mine: Sheila and Nel's Wedding at Kerry Park overlooking Seattle.  One of theirs: Photo of Seattle wedding photographer Joe Hein.

Not only is Evan Jill’s cousin, but he and Carrie are our awesome friends. Through their engagement session and wedding planning, we’ve had so much fun getting to know them more as a couple.

One of the reasons we like to really get to know our couples is that we believe it’s hugely important to how the final images and album turn out. As photographers, we’re constantly challenged to interpret and translate a feeling or moment into a single frame. To translate authentically, you have to know people. It might sound like voodoo, but it’s the truth.

Evan and Carrie’s wedding had a BIG wedding party, cigars, and a beautifully backlit reception! They were also married in the same church where Carrie went to Catholic school which had to be a trip!

I have a few more things to say about Evan and Carrie and their wedding, but I think I’ll save it for a future post. Speaking of posts, for anyone who’s keeping track you’ve probably noticed that we’ve been absent from the blog scene for a while. The reason? We’ve just had a baby, finished our studio, and been busy taking care of some amazing clients — all great fodder for an onslaught of blog posts coming your way!

Since this is our comeback post, here’s a bunch images courtesy of Evan and Carrie . . .
